Assisting Hands of Bergen County At Assisting Hands we provide peace of mind to clients and their families. Our in-home care assures them that loved ones can remain safe, comfortable and independent. We serve clients who are generally in good health, but would like some companionship and help around the house, as well as those suffering from various chronic illnesses. We also assist people who need temporary assistance while they recuperate from an injury, hospitalization or surgery. In each of these cases our certified home health aides can help with the activities of daily living. All of our aides have passed an extensive screening and our orientation program. They are licensed, bonded and insured. Our clients consistently compliment us on our quality caregivers and on two other areas of strength. The first is our Director of Nursing or DON. This is a full-time, dedicated role for our agency. Our DON interviews every caregiver candidate, partners on all hiring decisions, conducts our orientation training, and provides ongoing supervision in the field. She also meets every client and completes the detailed assessment that we use to establish the care plan and select a caregiver. Perhaps most important she remains involved during the course of our service via follow-up visits and calls. She frequently receives feedback from our aides about changes in our clients’ condition, and she uses this information to coordinate appropriate action with family members and medical providers. Some agencies use multiple nurses on a per diem basis, and in some cases they are responsible only for the assessment work. We believe our approach offers much greater consistency and value for our clients. The other differentiator is reliability. Your caregiver will clock in and out by dialing a toll-free number from your home phone. We monitor this activity and are quickly in touch with the aide and yourself in the event of a delay. We also have a great track record with respect to sending the same aide on a regular basis. Our clients appreciate the comfort of seeing the same friendly face. And that consistency promotes strong bonds between the client and caregiver, which encourages socialization and ultimately benefits the client’s well being. When the need does arise to send someone new, one of our staff will come to your home to introduce the new aide. Clients and their families appreciate that someone they’ve met prior goes out to introduce the new person, particularly when a client lives alone.
