The Highlands at Wyomissing Is this your business? In April of 1989, The Highlands opened its first apartment residences as a joint venture of The Lutheran Home at Topton and The Reading Hospital. In July 2009, The Reading Hospital purchased The Lutheran Home at Topton'sinterest in The Highlands at Wyomissing. Blessed with 113 acres of gently rolling land and tree-lined roads and walkways adjacent to the beautiful Wyomissing Parkway, the retirement community draws a diverse and outstanding caliber of residents from Berks and surrounding counties as well as across the United States. The Highlands has 250 residential apartments of various sizes, 38 spacious two- and three-bedroom cottages, and the Farmstead. Among the many amenities residents enjoy are a fully equipped Fitness Center; a heated, indoor pool; computer center; library; art studio; billiard and poolroom; woodworking shop; and an outdoor practice fairway and putting green. Services to residents include excellent dining areas catering to a variety of culinary tastes and social events; housekeeping; maintenance; banking; transportation; and educational enrichment opportunities. Residents enjoy the added security of long-term healthcare on premises, consisting of a 80-bed Nursing Care facility and a 70-apartment Personal Care residence, complete with fireplace, lounge, indoor greenhouse, and recreation program center. Members of our Future Residents List enjoy many programs and amenities at The Highlands in the years before they actually move in residence. A fully-refundable deposit assures a place on the wait list until applicants are ready ” in a month, a year, or ten years ” to move to The Highlands. Although most members of the community enter The Highlands through a lifetime care agreement in residential living, those requiring a higher level of care may directly move to a Personal Care apartment where there is no entrance fee. Additionally, private respite apartments are available for senior adults from surrounding communities when their caregivers are temporarily unavailable.
