About The Mary Culver Home

The Mary Culver Home The Mary Culver Home for Visually Impaired Women For more than 150 years, the Mary Culver Home has been a haven for women with vision loss. The home is a cozy not-for-profit home for older women. The primary admission criteria remain the same—the home is for women only and they must have an eye condition that could lead to vision loss or be legally blind. The mission of the Mary Culver Home is simple – “To provide visually impaired women with dignified, compassionate, holistic care in a warm family atmosphere, as well as to promote security, confidence, and an excellent quality of life.” Professional caregivers at the Mary Culver Home provide all-inclusive care for a reasonable monthly fee, and most women choose to stay with us for life. Because of its small size, the home is home in the truest sense of the word. Each staff member knows each resident by name, as well as the family members and friends who visit. The intimacy fosters an environment where the happiness of residents is as important as their physical well-being. Like their predecessors in 1866, the Mary Culver ladies of today assert their independence by exercising preferences for everything from schedules to activities, meals, and entertainment. Residents of the Mary Culver Home enjoy private bedrooms and comfortable common areas, such as the auditorium for formal activities and music programs. They are also welcome to meet family and friends in the parlor, a comfortable living room in the administrative wing. Dining Services staff members serve three meals in the dining area at one end of the auditorium. The ladies can also choose to dine in their rooms, the Cozy Café, or the solarium. The newly renovated dayroom is the hub of daily activities. For those who love fresh air, the front-entry patio with a scented garden and the west courtyard patio garden are easily accessed from anywhere in the building. With just 27 rooms and a simple layout, the Mary Culver Home is easy to navigate. What Makes Us Special We accept females that are visual impaired or declared blind except short term respite stay under 30 days. The state of Missouri licenses the Mary Culver Home as an intermediate care facility, which means residents can receive minimal assistance through full nursing care and hospice services.

Tips for Evaluating Your Options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Seniorsite Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location

Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services

Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the California regulations for living type

Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you're considering.
