Samuel F. Vilas Home We provide a warm, safe, and comfortable environment to our residents so they can maximize their level of physical, spiritual, and emotional independence. For over 130 years, the Vilas Home has honored one purpose: to provide a beautiful home and premier care to residents of the North Country. Our 42-bed adult home was built in 1888 and today the building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places under the provisions of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966. Our three-story building has its original high-ceiling rooms, large windows, recessed porches, and is considered a prime example of Queen Anne Architecture (we’re proud of our history!). Amenities and Services: At the Vilas Home, we believe in individualized care (cookie cutters are good for one thing: cookies…although we do make good cookies!). Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Seniorsite Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:
Tour the location:

Confirm the availability of required services:
Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.
Know the California regulations for living type:
Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you're considering.
